A FOREWORD
It gives me a great pleasure to write FOREWORD to this Book of
"SAI'S SPLENDOUR" translated by Sri. Caringula Satyanarayana's
Panduranga Rao which gives a short sketch of the life and teachings of Shri Sai
Baba of Shirdi.
It is wise to
strive to do God's will in everything, because that is the way to peace of mind
and happiness. We have to do our part, we must play the role, assigned to us by
the Divine, not what we want to play. There will be greater joy in our life
when we strive to please God, not self.
We search
everywhere for one who is a visible representative of God. When we find such a
representative and when in such a person we see God in action, we call him
" Guru" and follow him faithfully.
The 'Guru' will
help us. God talks to us and guides us through a 'Guru'. His one duty is to
plant love for God in our consciousness. He seeks nothing from us but our own
spiritual well being. The 'Guru1 is he whom God appoints to lead us
out of darkness of ignorance into land of eternal light.
Our" Sai
" is Viswaguru since for him all religions are one. He always used to say
"SABKA MALIK EK". We are really fortunate for having taken birth in
this land where our Guru " Sai " has taken his Avatar.
" BABA" has assured us,
saying :
" MY EYE (OF VIGILENT
SUPERVISION) IS EVER ON
THOSE WHO LOVE ME. WHATEVER YOU DO,
WHEREVER
YOU MAY BE, EVER BEAR THIS IN MIND,
THAT I AM
ALWAYS AWARE OF EVERYTHING YOU DO.
I WILL BE WITH YOU, WHENEVER AND
WHEREVER YOU
THINK OF ME. DO NOT FEAR."
So let us be a
pure and true follower of "BABA" and pray him to bless us, to think,
to talk and to hear about him always.
"SAI'S
SPLENDOUR" What a name ! I am very much delighted with the commendable
work done by Sri. Caringula Sathyanarana's Panduranga Rao. In a translation, it
is always difficult to convey the exact meaning of a theme from one language
into another. It is much more difficult to translate a matter which is in
'VERSE' form. I must say that Sri. Caringula Sathyanarayana's Panduranga Rao
has done his very best. Some of the verses reminded me some of my experiences
which I had in my life. The Forty Seventh "Verse" in "Sai's
Sacred Proverbs" is true in letter and spirit. I quote an example of
"Satguru Baba's direct help rendered to me in having Padanamaskar of
"Shri Yogananda Krishna Murty’ of Khammam District a preacher of Sai
Tenets.
It was at
Narasaraopet, I had the experience where I worked for three years from May 1993
to May 1996. Two days prior to Shriramanavami festival in the year 1995, the
committee members of Shri Shirdi Sai Mandir, Narasaraopet, came to my house and
extended invitation to attend to Seetharama Kalyanautsavam in the Mandir to be
performed by Sri. Yogananda Krishna Murty. The moment I received the invitation
I could not control my emotions and developed a strong desire to have the
Padanamaskar of the guest. But I was helpless to go to the Mandir owing to some difficulties. I went into prayer
room sat before Baba's photograph and placed my problem before him. YES, Baba
is undoubtedly a great man. He proved his assurance" DONT FEAR WHEN I AM
HERE". A day prior to
Sreeramanavani festival at 10-30 P.M. I switched of the lights in the house and
was going to bed. At that time a car stopped in front of my house. Somebody
rang the calling bell. When I opened the door, a friend of mine jubilantly told
me that Baba (Sri. Yogananda Krishna Murty) has come. Please, come and invite
him. I was stunned, an unbelievable moment. My legs started shivering, voice
started fumbling. Immediately I woke up my wife. Both of us went near the car.
It was another surprise to us it was none but Baba who sat in the car. A tall
man, with white beard, head wear (turban) wearing a long Khafni, holding a
stick in hand, got down from the car. We took 'Baba1 inside the
prayer room. While tears coming out of our eyes, we touched his feet, who
blessed us to have peace and happiness. When my wife continuously shedding
tears, he told her 'Don't shed tears before me, Baby, I am common man like you.
Go and shed tears before him, (showing Saibaba) because, he cannot see tears in
the eyes of his disciples". We were also so fortunate to participate in
the function the next day as the first couple to perform "Seetharama
Kalyanotsavam". So magnificiently the 47th 'Verse1 has been
experienced by us. I request the readers to kindly forgive me for taking
liberty to mention the personal experience of mine as a foreword. After going
through the "Verses" I tell you truthfully that all my questions have
been answered. The devotees of Lord Sai who by chance go through this
publication will definitely be delighted and will know what passes in their
hearts. The answer, definitely will be radiance of Sai's Splendour. I pray
Lord Sainath to bless the' author to carry on further in the causes of
spreading the tenets of Sai, and I sincerely feel that his work is bound to be
a success as Baba has said:
"If my
leelas are written, the Avidya (nescience) will vanish and if they are
attentively, and devoutly listen to, the consciousness of the wordly existence
will abate, and strong waves of devotion, and love will rise up and if one
dives deep into my leelas, he would get precious jewels of knowledge".

I am greatful to
Lord Sai and the author for having blessed me with an opportunity to wrire this
Foreword, I sincerely believe, is also the job assigned by his holy Sai.

FORE REQUEST
Having utilised
all the wards in my "small" Vocabulary to Extal the "Life and
Philosophy" of 'Our Saviour Sai' the super sagacious saint of the holy
shrine of Shirdi, in rendering this Translation. I have only a request to make
to the READERS.
I would Appeal to
them, to take into their ESTEEMED consideration and to Appreciate the
limitations I had, in Translating the "ORIGINAL" in "TELUGU.,"
into "ENGLISH.".
The FIRST and the
foremost is that the main "THOUGHT" Embodied in the ORIGINAL, had to
be sustained through! out in the TRANSLATION without changer or modification.
The
SECOND-The" WORD-PROCESS" and "EXPRESSION", as also the
"STYLE" in the ORIGINAL, is by for the "MOST APPROPRIATE"
as well as "AUTHENTIC", which in the Translation, had to be Imbibed;
if only to HIGHLIGHT their 'RICH' Relevance and Importance.
The THIRD-the
"MEDIUM" of Translation being ENGLISH - a FOREIGN Language,
Appropriate or Exact " WORD EQUIVALENTS" for various "ASPECTS
and TENETS" of "SAI's PHILOSOPHY"., as well as of the VEDANTIC
and other DOCTRINAL" THOUGHT - PROCESSES " ., could not be used.
As a TRANSLATOR I
consider it as my "UNIQUE" fortune to get this opportunity to
Translate "SAI DEEPIKA" from the ORIGINAL in TELUGU, Authored by
"SRI. CARINGULA MADHU" and to DEDICATE "this" TRANSLATION
,as an HUMBLE 'Offering’ to the SACRED MEMORY of the SUPREME SAI and to
"HIS" Countless MILLIONS of DEVOTEES.
I have also to

Though with SPOUSE and CHILDREN, struggles
'YET,
To lead an EXEMPLARY Life;
Renouncing even "LIBERATION and

PROGENY, endeavour to earn
The SUBLIME GRACE of the DIVINE and to
trek the pious-path to reach the

Worldly Actions and In-Actions,
Achievements and Failures.,
PRAISE and CURSE, JOYS and SORROWS; have
no RELEVANCE,
Neither Visits to TEMPLES, Nor Tours to
HOLY-PLACES.,
ONLY the "FAITH" in the SUPREME
anchored to KNOWLEDGE,
Shall ULTIMATELY LEAD, to eternal
Liberation and Deliverence.,

and Delight,
Delectably Delicious Feasty foods,
Richly-royal Robes, Fragrant Flowers.,
All there I desire Not, Not even AIRAVATH,
KALPATHARU and KAMADHENU Do I covet.,
I pine only to see the Glimmer in THY
LOTUS EYES.,
To behold the Radiance in the enthrilling
smile on THY Lotus-Lips.,

Unable to Experience the AII-PERVADING,
Unable to practice CONTEMPLATION and meditation.,
Slave to IGNORANCE, "without" a
good Thought, a good ward, a good Deed., With "LEARNING"
Eclipse"d, "REASONING" clipped, "Hopes" lost.,
Totally PERPLEXED, CONFUSED, DISPAIRED,
DEMORALISED.,
How could "I" follow the 'path'
of ENLIGHTENMENT?

Teachings? Eulogise “THY" philosophy ?
Determine “THY" Role in HISTORY, in
the SAGA of HUMAN CIVILIZATION?

and cognant., have bestowed Immeasureable
PEACE and Joy.,
Why then should "I" NOT BE WITH
"THEE" ? within "THEE"?
