SRI RAMANAVAMI
(birth of Lord Rama) is being celebrated every year as SRI SAI RAMANAVAMI at
Shirdi and all over the country by sai Devotees, with great enthusiasm, with
religious fervor. (love & devotion). Among the 10 Avatars SRI RAMA and SRI
KRISHNA Avatars are considered most important (efficacious) ones for humanity
at large. Both Ramayana (life of Sri Rama) and Bhagawad Geetha (teachings of
Lord Krishna to his friend disciple, Arjuna) are two great epics.
Origin of SRI
SAI RAMANAVAMI, The 'URUS' started in 1897 by Sri, Gopal Rao Gund, {a great
devotee of BABA) a circle inspector of Kopergaon, has been transformed from
'URUS ' to RAMANAVAMI festival in 1912.
SRI SAI RAM is
not different from SRi RAM (Both are Avatara purushas- incarnations of God,
Though in different names & forms; but the only one 'PARA BRAHMA
SWAROQPA'). But SRI RAMA never considered that he was God- incarnate. He lived
as an ordinary human beings. (though possessed vast divine powers ). He taught
people by his own example, how to obey parents, to love brothers and friends
and to lead a ( Moral) pure life. He renounced his chaste wife, Sow Seetha,
when one washerman, doubted her chastity and spoke about her, what a great
sacrifice the world has ever thrown. SRI RAMA's birth place, parents etc, is
known to ail of us, but we are yet to find SRI SAf RAMA'S birth place, parents
place, (but by sri. V.B. Kher's research, it is now known as 'PATHRI' is BABA's
birth place).
Now, coming to
the point/ subject "SRI SAI RAMA NAVAMI", some shirdi Devotees wanted
to celebrate 'BABA'S birthday' and approached him. He told them to celebrate
'SRI RAMANAVAMI'as his birthday. This was in 1912 or so and since then SRI
RAMANAVAMI as 'SRI SAI RAMA NAVAMI' is being celebrated at shirdi, all over the
country and abroad every year.
SRI SAI BABA
has given darshan as' SR! RAMA' to one South African doctor and he advised MRS.
KHAPARDE and many devotees of his to always chant RAJA RAM RAJA RAM. BABA'S Sri
Sai Satchrita is Ramayana & mini Bhagwad Geetha for us. Sri. Goswami
TULASIDAS ( Who was made after his wife before becoming a RAMA Bhakthas) and
dacoit RATNAKAR. (both sinners) have became great Devotees of Lord RAMA by
completely surrendering with body, mind and possessions. Tulasida's Ramayana
and Valmikis Ramayana are read (daily parayan) by SRI. RAMA's Devotees and got
sri. Rama's darshan (sakshatkar), like wise Sai Satcharita is read (daily
parayan) by Sai Devotees & they are blessed by SAI RAM, by fulfilling their
genuine desires and also Darshan to his devotees in some form or other
(SAKSHATKAR).
To conclude on
this auspicious occassion of" SRI SAI RAMANAVAMI" Which falls on
11-4-2003 this year, let us Sai devotees, worship him with love & devotion
, meditate on him and chant his Taraka mantra ' OM SAI SRI SAI JAYA JAYA SAI'
constantly which is the easiest path to attain salvation in this KALIYUGA (iron
age).
OM TAT SAT, OM SHANTI, SHANTI, SHANTIHI.
Bow to Sri Sai!
One afternoon about three decades back I
put a question to Sri. Radhakrishna Swamiji, "Swamiji, one person calls
himself SaiBaba . Is he Sai Baba?"To that Swamiji did not answer
metaphysically, but said, "use your discrimination, you can find
out."
I had thought
about this topic earlier to my interview with Swamiji and I have thought
subsequently. I may be permitted to do some loud thinking on this matter.
The dictionary
meaning of discrimination is" to distinguish, to know the
difference." There is a world of difference between the life led by Sri.
Sai Baba and the claimant.
It may be
recalled that when Sri. SaiBaba first arrived ar Shirdi, no one knew his name.
He never cared to tell either. He leaves Shirdi and comes back again with a
marriage party. It was then that Mhalaspathy calls him by impulse HEY SAI .That
name stuck to him. What name his parents had given him no one knows. He never
told, when he was established, he answered to a question "they call me Sai
Baba". As to a question about his religion, he said "Kabir".
It is well
known that similarities existed in the lives, circumstances and outlook of both
Kabir and SaiBaba. Yet Saibaba never said he is Kabir, the second.. As events
have proved, there was no need for him to take on a known name or an
established name. He would have become known and famous by any name.
His life was
open and transparent. The mosque where he came to live and lived for more than
sixty years had no doors or windows. His life was open to public gaze. Anyone
at any time could see what he was doing. The floor of the mosque was his cot.
He would see to it that Mhalaspathi and Tatya who stayed with him, would also
not fall into sleep.
In the scheme
of things of Sai Baba, there was nobody who was high and nobody was low. He ate
and lived with Hindus, Muslims, Parsees and others.
Sai Baba was a
wish fulfilling tree, a Kamadhenu. Yet everyday he would go begging for alms -
an emperor without epo. He made no wealth, no ashrams. Three things were his
constant companions, name of God on his lips, the torn kafni and the begging
bowl.
His method of
teaching was not to give discourses but to live by what he wanted to teach.
Rather than say orally, that everyone is equal in the eyes of God, He would
recall the leper who was leaving him after darshan, take out a pedafrom the
leper's clothes, eat a part of it himself and give the remaining to the lady,
sitting nearby, who had mentally wished that the stinking leper should depart.
The alms
collected from begging, he would keep near the steps of the mosque, cows, dogs
and the sweeper woman would parttake the food. What remained he would eat as a
hotch potch.
As Saibaba
encouraged ritualistic worship in the mosque, all Muslims were not happy. There
was resentment, intolerance and even threats of cutting of throats. SaiBaba had
no police protection, had no electronic warning system. His divinity protected
himself and his devotees.
Readers may
think up other distinguishing features. Any one may call himself SaiBaba. That
is not the real thing. Sai Baba has shown through his life, that only he is SaiBaba,
because he alone can lead such a life.
I have no bad
feelings against any one claiming to be SaiBaba. I feel that each person has a
purpose to serve.
Bow to Sri Sai Peace be to all

Sadguru Sai is
Ram and Ram is our Shirdi Sai. Sri Rama Navami is celebrated as Sri Sai
Jayanthi in Shirdi and by all Sai Bhaktas all over the world. Sai Baba, as
one's inner, Ruler, embraces all Ishta Devatas of the devotees, especially as
Sri Rama and so Sri Rama Navami is revered as Sai Jayanthi. Sai Baba never
asked people to do pooja to Him. Instead, He asked the devotees to observe Sri
Rama Navami.
Sri Rama was
God. who was a king and an ideal man in Treta YUG whereas our sai was and is
God, who was a fakir livin'g in shridi for over 60 years in the 20 th century
of this Kaliyug.
Sri Rama
sacrificed everything to uphold the honour of people and devoted his heart and
soul for the welfare of his subjects. He was an avatara purusha who
personified, dharmic way of life. Similarly, Sri Sainath, an avatar of love and
compassion, not only sacrificed, everything for the welfare of His devotees and
people of shirdi but strove hard, to uplift the entire mankind, by ever living
as a fakir of the highest order and by treading on the path of shubhra Marga as
an embodiment of guru bhakthi. He surrendered His tan man and dhan at the holy
feet of His Guru Venkusa.
We all know how
Sri Rama obeyed the words, of his guru Vasishta and later Rishi Valmiki,
Valmikis Rama lived in and for dharma. Though overwhelmed by grief and chain of
misfortunes He maintained equipoise and never deviated from the Righteous path.
Baba's charter
and Sayings are the enlightened, teachings for self- realisation where as yoga
vasishta, the precepts given by sage vasishta to Lord Rama is the compendium of
moral values for dharmic way of life and so both Lord Rama and our Sadguru Sai
were the torch bearers of righteous path for mankind. Devotees have seen Sai in
the graceful form of Sri Ramachandra.
See Ram in Sai and Sai in Ram
Sit in silence, seek their grace
utter His name, Sai Ram, Sai Ram
Sure you can see Ram in Sai
On Rama Navami Day, meditate on Sai's
form
Sure, Sai will shine in Rama's glory
Sai reveals the sakshatkara of Ishta
Devata
In His vision enjoy the immortal- joy
By ceaseless chanting of ‘om sai sri sai jayajaya sai’
Om Sai Ram, Sri Sai Ram, Jaya Jaya Sai
Ram.
Incessant
chanting of God's hallowed names is an easy method to realise and reach God.
Apostles from every religion have demonstrated the efficacy of nam smaran.
There is no restriction of any kind on persons who may recite Lord's names or
the time when they can utter them unlike the performance of religious rites or
offering worship or observing austerities. The process of continuous repetition
of Gods names with devotion enables a dedicated person to identify himself with
the Almighty.
Nayanmars of
the south wanted people to visualise the presence of God in every one of their
acts and there was no curb on the desire to possess wealth but this, saints
like our Baba declared, should be considered as a means to realise God. One of
the foremost Nayanmars, sundarar, led a normal family life but yet never
allowed himself to get drowned inflecting pleasures. Chanting of Lord siva's
names enabled him to overcome all obstacles and he considered himself as an
instrument of God, entrusted with the task of broadcasting the message "
God is love"
On this day
(April 11 - Sri Rama Navami) May we live in the abode of Ram Nam and Sai Ram
through the constant chanting of the Lord's name .
Ever at the holy feet
of sai & Swamiji Sai Ananda.

Here, I would
like to express my experience of Sai Leela.
Though I am an
Artist, I was drawing Sai pictures from 1999 onwards by his grace. At that time
I bought one Sai cassette named 'Sai Saranam' after its cover attraction. Among
Ten pictures in that cover, I drawn one Baba picture and I gave it to 'Indian
Express' publication along with other paintings. They published (with baba
picture) my painting along with the write up on last 13m, March 2003
on Thursday.
The same day
Mr. Balachand a Sai devotee called me and appreciated my works and referred to
see Guruji Sai Ravichandran.
Today 29m
March by Baba's grace i met Guruji Sai Ravichandran & family and his
Akshaya Sri Sai Dhyana Sabai Surprisingly he told the picture of Baba drawn
& published in the paper was taken by him and given for cassette release
see how Baba linking Sai Hearts and conducting Leelas.
After seeing
that photograph I drawned that lovely Baba painting after it came out for
publishing the same painting is connecting so many Sai Hearts. From These
incidents I am really feeling from my heart that what a great Artist "Sai
Baba".

Sri. Sai
Padananda Radha Krishna Swamiji is doing the same act. Though sai Baba &
Swamiji are different in norms & forms, they are both one in spirit.
(BRAHMA SWAROOPI)
My first
contact with Swamiji was in September 1945 or so in an adjacent building by the
side of ALL INDIA SAI SAMAJ building which was under construction. He was very
happy to know that my late father Sri. Ranganatha Iyer was the class mate of -
H-H. Sri. Chandra Sekarendra Saraswathi Swamiji of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam and
all our family members were great devotees of Him ( Periaval) and also we
became devotees of SRI SAI BABA from 1942 on words.
When I took
leave of him, he gave two plantain fruits in my hand & blessed me. (NISHTA
and SABURI). Since then, I had many experiences with him which were published
in "SREE SAI LEE LA” Bombay & other magazines.
Now, I narrate
the latest one that had happened on Saturday 22-2-2003 at Shirdi during the
" SAI NAMA SAPTAHAM" Which was going on. On friday 21-2-2003 mid
night I was feeling restless in my mind & my "Antharathma" (inner
Conciousness) was felling me that some thing going to happen to me. Then I
started chanting " SRI RAM JAYARAM JAYA JAYARAM, SATHGURU NATHA SAI
RAM" ( This mantra used to be chanted by my lote Father, Sri Ranganatha
Iyer - my fore fathers GRAND FATHER of great GRAND Father, SRI RAMA Sastry of
TIRUVANNAI NALLUR had darshan of SRI RAMA).
Coming to the
point, purging {dysentry) started from 5 AM on 22-2-2003, within 10 minutes, (
I had 10 motions) I was completely exhausted and was in semi conciousness. I
thought that I would collapse, Both my Mrs and another devotee were sleeping in
the corner of the room. I did not inform them of my precarious condition of
health. I left every thing to BABA's will as to leave the ghost at Shirdi, is
very meritorious. To die in KASHI ( BANARAS) is for one to attain moksha asper
sastras. For Sai Devotees, Shirdi is nothing but KASHI and all other holy
places.
But wonder of
wonders!! SRI. Radha Krisha Swamiji appeared before me, and I tried to
prostrate lo his divine feet, but he said, " " Get up, first take
bath & do Achamanam ( Sanskirt word) means (taking pure water in to the
mouth with the help of a spoon, which is placed in a small tumbler filled with
water, while taking water & putting in the mouth one should utter Achutaya
Namaha, Anantaya Namaha & Govindaya Namaha) ( All God's name) & I will
wait for you. Battery ( my lody) was charged with swamijis divine power. I got
up, took bath & came & prostrated at His divine feet. He blessed me,
saying " you are now alright"& disappeared. It was so realistic
that it cannot be called a dream vision. He appeared in flesh & blood. Then
I immediately ran up to " SAMADHIMANDIR" to have darshan of Baba.
When I prostrated at His samadhi and looked at him, He smiled and blessed me.
(I actually felt that His hands placed on my head and " UDI" applied
on my forehead).
I must admit
that I am a rustic, neither a yogi, Jnani, nor a great devotee (Baktha of the
Lord). I am a bogi & rogi.
I only chant
this name always - " OM SAI SRI SAI JAYA JAYA SAI" and also VISHNU
SAHASRANAMAM and HANUMAN CHLISA {daily). I sing Bhajans, listen Bhajans, do
parayana of sri sai satcharita, Bhagawad Geetha & read other holy
scriptures which keeps me in blissful stage.
OM TAT SAT, OM SHANTI, SHANTIHI SHANTIHI. JAI SAIRAM

NB: I think
both Baba & Swamiji has spared my life & wants to get their work done,
using as an instrument in their hands.

The HIGH LIGHTS OF THE FUNCTION.

because Baba himself was present in the idol & Blessed all the Devotees.
OM TAT SAT
(Saijeevi)
Bow to Sri Sai!
Peace be to all!!
OM SAI SRI SAI
JAVA JAVA SAI
DO MEDITATION ! DO ANNADHANAM !!
We the human
beings are mostly depend on finance to live in this Kali age. Most of the time
is spent on this and we are not able to spare time for our self-realisation, We
are loosing the good practices left by our ancestors. In this century having
lost our family attachments, Kindness, Dharma, Social awareness & self
control, Sri Sal Baba of Shirdi appeared in this world to unite the people of
all religion and had the capacity of all pervasiveness. Though persons who were
with Sri Sai Baba are not there now, and Baba attained His maha samadhi, He
dwells in the hearts of every body and guiding them in their walk of life.
Having attained
His Mahasamadhi more than 80 years still His leelas, to each and everyone
through His Bhakthas are countless, even thousand tongue Adhisesha can't tell
these leelas. By these leelas most of the people were benefited. In this myself
had many experiences and recollect an incident out of this and writing in this Sai
Deep magazine for the use of Devotees.
Some years
back, during my daily parayan of Sri Sai Satcharita, on one day it happened for
me to read chapter 5, which contains Baba came to Shirdi along with marriage
party of Chand Patil. Having appeared as a lad of 16 years at Shirdi under a
Neem tree at first and disappeared, and came back to Shirdi along with Chand
Patils marriage party from Dhoop village, and I was drawn to the village Dhoop
where Baba had His first leela.
To go to Dhoop
village I was enquiring at Shirdi every time when I visit, but could not
succeed . To locate the village became remote, due to the change in name by its
rulers earlier and also of language probelm. With all these hurdles I was going
on enquiring about the Dhoop village, every time I visit shirdi.
When Babe
appeared first at Shirdi during 1854 nobody know from where he came and who are
the parents and birth place etc. This was enquired by the people of village
Shirdi with Baba and by visiting devotees, but no proper reply came either from
Baba and from any body as per the information available in Sai Satcharita
(Sansthan publication). But regarding village Dhoop it is clearly written in
the Book as a village in Aurangabad District of Nizam state. Hence my self with
other friends started to Shirdi during the month November 1997, with a
confidence in my mind to locate the village Dhoop.
I had the
belief that Baba will show me a correct approach for locating Dhoop while
leaving Chennai central station. Though my friends were enquiring me about
Shirdi, since being their first visit, my mind was preoccupied with locating
Dhoop village.
We reached
Shirdi after visiting Pandharpur etc. At that time I have recollected about an
invitation which called me to Shirdi, i.e. (owing to 80th maha samadhi of Baba
Sai Nama Japa yagnam will be conducted at eighty places and start will be at
Shirdi Khandoba Mandir). What a surprise and coincidence. Baba came to shirdi
from Dhoop village and alighted at khandoba Mandir only. Though I have visited
Shirdi many times, I could not visit khandoba Mandir, But this time Baba called
me to Khandoba Mandir, through the Sai Nama invitation, What a surprise and His
leela.
Sri. Chand
Patil is a village officer of Dhoop village and when he was on his way from
Aurangabad to Dhoop duly searching his lost mare, he heard a voice by calling
his name. When he turned towards the sound from where it came he noticed a
'RATNA' queer person sitting under a mango tree wearing kafni and a cap on his
head. This queer person enquired Chand about the saddle on his shoulder, for
which Chand replied it is of his lost mare and he was searching it for the past
three months. Then Baba (queer person) asked him to search in the nallah nearby
and wonder of wonders he got the lost more.
Since Chand was
very tired, Baba asked him to take rest and preparing for a chillim to smoke,
for which two things are required, fire & water. Baba hit the ground with
chimta, a live coal appeared and thrust the ground with satka water started
oozing . Then the chillim was made ready and Baba had a puff, he gave it to
Chand patil and both shared the smoke. Seeing this leelas, Chand came to a
conclusion, this queer person is not an ordinary man. He is an Avalia, and
requested Him to accompany to his village Dhoop. Baba also agreed & both
came to Dhoop.
Baba
accompanied Chand patil and stayed there in his house for some time and then
along with his marriage party Baba came to Shirdi and alighted at the khandoba
Mandir, Which is the family deity of Mahalsapathy, gold smith of shirdi
village. I have started searching Dhoop from the place of arrival of Baba at
Shirdi (ie) Khandoba Mandir. I could not get any information at Shirdi about
the village Dhoop. One day in my stay at shirdi in November 1997, I had the
inquisiteness to ask the priest of Shirdi Samadhi Mandir about village Dhoop.
While enquiring with him he asked " how is that you have chosen me in
asking the particulars" , and further told me, that the village Dhoop is a
small village it is very difficult to go and also nobody is there. Inspite of
all his reluctance I have worried him to give the particulars of the route
& nearby place, so that I will try to locate. He told me that " you
have to go to Aurangabad and from there you have to go in Paithan Road and hinted
a name of the place nearby.
Accordingly,
out of seven member only four of us have gone to Aurangabad, (the 3 members
returned to Chennai) and near the bus stand one Baba Petrol Bank was there, and
I have started enquiring about the village Dhoop. Nobody, and most of the auto
drivers also could not reply about the place. But one auto person seeing me,
came to me and said please pay me Rs.150. I will take you to that place, I have
agreed and all the four persons loaded our luggage in the auto & proceeded
towards Paithon. After travelling 15km from Aurangabad, auto driver started
enquiring the persons by stopping the auto here and there. On seeing this, I
have asked him how is that you have accepted telling, you know the place Dhoop.
He replied me that this is the place I thought which you have told me. With all
these we have proceeded further and came to a place after travelling 10 to 12
kms and enquired an old man. He replied, you are wrongly telling the name of
the place or else the place may be some where else and further told us from
here nearby a small stream is there, Baba used to take bath which I know the
information.
In searching the place we came on the
same Paithon Road and came to a bridge nearby, there we saw an old board
written in Marathi about Baba. on seeing this, local person came & directed
us to go in a small country road and told , you will be able to see the village
after travelling 3 kms. On the way we have to struggle in travelling because of
improper road and a sudden Whirl wind with sand. After subsidal of the wind we
are able to reach the border of the village Dhoop. There we could see an
elevated place and a temple tower, nearby a thatched shed, in it a small marble
Baba's statue was there. From the appearence we could able to understand,
shortly there was no worship of the idol. And we all sat on the ebvated place
due to our tiredness.
After a small
rest, an old man enquired us and started answering to our question, and told
this is the place Dhoop Kheda (Dhoop gaon) is the place you read as Dhoop in
Sai Satcharita, This is the place where you all are sitting now is belonged to
the grand son of Chand Patel, who brought Sai Baba to this place. He showed us
Chand Patils grand son and their land and two neem trees where Baba used to sit,
while He was in Dhoopkheda.
Mean while, on
hearing this news, Chand Patils 4th hereditary grand son came to us
and after hearing from us, that we are from Chennai, he was very much happy and
told us about Baba and their services to Baba during His stay at Dhoop. I took
photo of alt the person in my camera & noted down all the information, what
he gave, (the stream where Baba will take bath, and the neem tree under which
Baba used to sit) and along with auto driver we took photograph of all who were
there at that time, and he called us to his house, it was a small thatched
house and nearby two neem trees were there and in one of the neem tree under
which Baba used to sit on meditation, and the leaves of that tree will not
taste as bitter, at the same time another neem tree whose leaves are tasting
bitter: this we could taste from the leaves given to us by them. At that time
some children came to us and we took photograph of the children that is the
time nearing sunset and I am interested in taking photo in that light (
sunset),
At that time
only a miracle has happened, (ie) back side of Chand patils hut I was trying to
take photo of the sunset, to my surprise I could see Baba in the centre of the
sun light, all the children surrounding me were shouting as "Baba ,
Baba" and this scene I could not narrate in few words, and at the same
time I was stunned without taking photo of Baba in sun light inspite of all the
children's request.
Having Baba's
grace I could locate the place of Dhoop, and further this incident confirming
to me that Baba shown a sign that He came to Shirdi from Dhoop. According to
the circumstances Baba used to appear in dream or in person and gave darshan
and satisfied the Bhakthas. To me and village people of Dhoop Baba given
Dharshan in sunlight is a greatest advent of us. Like this so many incidents
are happening daily and Devotees are getting their experience.
After taking
all these particulars, some how the unfinished temple to be completed in that
thinking we have started to Aurangabad with the same auto. The auto driver who
came to depart us in Aurangabad Railway station has not accepted any of the
fare from us. (NB) The photograph which I took at Dhoop, I am trying to hand
over to the auto driver but I could not. Then who is this Auto driver ? This is
sai leela.
In the same
year during Dec 1997, I have met Sri. K.V. Ramani a great philanthropist in Sai
mission and with his kind help, the temple at Dhoopkheda was completed and four
aarathis are being performed regularly. Sai Devotees who are visiting, Shirdi
are going to Aurangabad to see sight seeing. Only a very few are visiting
Dhupkheda. It is our request that Sai devotees who are visiting Shirdi should
visit Dhoopkheda also, considering it a Punya Shetra. Those who are interested
are requested to contact our centre at Teynampet for further details, we are
ready to guide them at all time.
