KEEP YOUR PROMISE

KEEP YOUR PROMISE

KEEP YOUR PROMISE

In Chapter 36 of Sai Satcharitra we have read the story of Two Goa gentalman. How they kept promises to Saibaba and forgot the promises and how Saibaba helped in fulfilling. Here is an interesting episode related to praying for & boon, making a vow and forgetting the obligation when the cherished desire is fulfilled, narrated to me by Sadguru Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji. In Swamiji's own words as far as my memory could help:

'A teacher couple came to me last evening in an agitated state, craving for pardon. They pleaded their dear born baby be saved. Asked for the reason for their fear, they said that Sri Sai Baba, appearing in a dream the previous night, said that he could  grant a child and also snatch it away at will. '

Reminding me about their visit about three years back when they prayed for a child and my assuring them that Baba would fulfil their desire, the couple took leave of me, promising to return with good news. The next year a child was born and the lady reminded her husband about their pending visit to me to thank Sai Baba. But he started arguing as to who deserved their gratitude and thanks. After all they had undertaken pilgrimages to holy places, inclusive of Rameswaram. Why should they feel it was Baba whose blessing brought about the good result? Thus, they never turned up.

Soon after their argument and inaction, Baba administrated a warning in dream and hence their hurried visit. The couple pleaded for pardon and offered to pay any penalty Baba would levy on them. I consoled them and put them at ease, assuring them that being Suddhasatva, Baba would not penalise people, especially after realise their mistakes and that their baby would be all right. Baba had only reminded them of their promise. Thus, the couple returned home with peace and happiness.
